The 5 Habits of Extremely Successful People
Would
you like to know what are the
principles behind extremely successful people?
I'm sure we all
want to have
more money, more fulfilling relationships,
and more freedom to
pursue our dreams
and goals.
What it takes to Succeed
The
truth is that successful people
have some behaviors and habits
in common even though they
might
succeed in different career fields
and have different educational
and/or
cultural backgrounds.
The
key to their success is their
daily habits.
Habits are NOT easy to change.
Instead of trying to get rid of your old habits (the ones you wish they don't exist), try to do new effective habits that are practiced by extremely successful people.
This
ensures that you are gradually
replacing the bad ones with good ones. Introduce
new and good ones and
persevere, it will replace the bad
habits over time.
Success
is in the details, in your passion and persistence, just keep repeating the
good habits that successful people follow.
The following
are the Five (5) habits that
are common among them:
Habit
1: a clear understanding of the purpose in everything you do.
Although
the emphasis is on the results of your actions, but also you should pay more
attention to the purpose of your actions
as well. A clear purpose helps in achieving results while you are enjoying
the process at the same time.
People
tend to react to situations or
don’t have a clear purpose in mind when doing
something.
Make
a firm decision to clarify what
your goals and vision are for the future
and
break it down into activities for
the month, for the week, for the day and
down
to the hour of the day. This helps
in guiding you to every actions that you
are
going to do every single day.
For
example, before you start checking
your emails, or working, ask yourself:
What is the goal of this action?
Does it contribute to something or for a purpose?
Extremely
successful people know what
they want to achieve so naturally
all their actions are timed to help
them
fulfill those goals.
Habit
2: Make quick and decisive decisions.
Consider
the pros and cons.
Winners tend to make quick and decisive decisions but if
they like to change it afterwards, they carefully consider
the pros and cons
before they change it.
The average person often make a decision
or change their
minds on the basis of what
is before them and not on their life goals.
Average
people are easily destructed by
what circumstances offer while extremely
successful people are busy creating
what they had in mind. Nothing is more
attractive to them than their goals.
Tip:
Winners are able to make quick
decisions, because they are very much
aware of
their value hierarchy and
beliefs and knowing their priorities
Wrong business decision is one of
the major reasons
why entrepreneurs fail.
To be successful as an entrepreneur,
you must master the art of making right decision promptly. If the decisions
you make constantly
bring in positive
results, then you’re on the right track.
Habit
3: Set
specific dates for your plan.
Extremely successful people take
small, smart steps toward their goals.
Make
it a habit to write down
the things you would like to
accomplish for the next
day,
by week, month and year and
prioritize the list. Manage time
prioritize and
allocate and
don’t let time manage you.
If you do not manage your time well,
you
are sure headed for failure.
Time management skill is important
if you want to
be successful as an entrepreneur. Forming a habit of
keeping and maximizing
time is a must.
Habit
4: Maintain a diary.
Maintain
a diary. Oprah does!
It
is a tool for you to translate your thoughts and ideas in a tangible form.
This
exercise will improve your
own problem solving ability. Plus
you can always
look back and
see how you analyze a situation or
problem and if you can improve
on it.
The
first diary rule is to maintain flexibility. Use the diary as a way
for
re-expression of your ideas.
Second,
let your thoughts flow free.
Don’t be too concerned with
grammatical errors.
Flow and
creativity should not be stifled.
Third,
use the diary to write down
your important values. Record special moments and
events. Record what is
going on in your life.
Fourth,
write down any issues
you have and the different ways you
try to resolve it.
That way you
can reflect back to see if you have improved your problem solving
ability
while keeping track of your own thought processes.
Habit
5: Have a strong purpose in life and pursue it by doing the things you love.
All
extremely successful people have
a life mission. They want to contribute.
Their main motivation is not money and paradoxically their non-monetary focus
brings them the wealth and fulfillment
that they are seeking for. Be clear on
the reasons why you do certain things
like starting a business or going for a certain
career.
Do
not let money be the main motivation factor; you need a stronger purpose
to
help you overcome obstacles in
your chosen path. Trust me, they will
come but
if you have a strong “why”,
you will find ways to overcome them.
If
your only goal is to make money,
as soon as you encounter any obstacles,
you
will throw in the towel because the
"Why" is not strong enough to keep you
going
and face the challenges that
might be presented to you in the future.
Here's
how they make it work -
all extremely successful people are doing things they
want to do the most
and manage to earn well through it.
So
ensure you balance your passion
and
dreams with relevancy and timeliness.
Ask yourself: Is it possible to
structure
your passion in a way that
can add value to other people and there
is a demand
for it?
Remember
your financial worth is
a reflection of how much value you
have added to other
people’s lives.
Once
you practice each one of these
habits and let it become second nature
to you,
definitely improvements will
be seen in your goal achievements and
being
successful.
Here’s a Filipino talent whom I’d
describe as our own Steve Jobs
in the
haute couture fashion industry.
Who is Michael Cinco?
Micheal Cinco is a friend of mine.
I
remember the time when I used to
tag along with his friends, “Angel”,
Jonathan Montejo
and others.
They were then in grade six and
I was in grade 5.
Michael and his friends were
a group of “designers”. My time with them after
class and sometimes on weekends
hanging
out in our town’s park was always with impromptu sketching and fashion
shows.
